The Services Library edition, 1940 Stated "New Impression". Hardback book is tight clean and square. Boards clean, with lightly bumped corners, and some gentle rubbing to edges, no fraying of cloth. Bumped to head and foot of spine, red title gilt perfect. Text block clean, with surprisingly light toning to edges, considering the wartime paper quality. Text block edges have few small and light spots, top edge dusty. The pages on the whole are crisp and unblemished, there are a few creased corners and the occasional single spot to the first 20 pages or so. There is a contemporary booksellers label to the foot of the front pastedown. The FEP has two previous owners names written in black ink, a some offset toning. The rear paste down has "Ad Astra" in red biro. The hinges are strong and clean with no evidence of cracking or starting. Feels read, but is not loose and does not feel "over" read. A book that is in solid very good condition. Jacket is mostly complete with only minor losses, generally it is toned a little against reference images I have of this series. The front flap has the price and tiny pencil notation. The front panel has a little wear to corners,50mm split at the bottom of fore edge with historic creasing. There is some minor edge wear, and a 8mm tear to top edge. The spine area is lightly toned with loss to head of front joint, there is chipping and creasing to spine ends. The rear panel has a little wear to corners, a small loss to head of joint, a 15mm closed tear to top edge, long light scratch and a grubby mark. The rear flap is clean with a couple of flat creases. For grading accuracy books are photographed without a protective book cover. This book is fitted with a non adhesive archival quality book protector to make a worthy addition to your collection. Note we do not use stock images, the book pictured is the book described. The Services Library edition. A scarce wartime 1940 re-issue of Aldous Huxley's novel of the future, especially with the jacket designed by Enid Marx. Even though the jacket has some pretty minor issues, it looks very presentable in the archival fitted cover on the shelf. A close to rare, with jacket, Huxley edition that is definitely one for the serious collector.
